Lassen County is located in the Northeastern part of California where the Sierra and Cascade mountains gently glide into the desert of the Great Basin. Approximately the size of Connecticut, but with a population of less than 40,000, Lassen County has ample land resources to develop without the congestion. This rural county has a wide variety of competitively-priced commercial and industrial sites available with excellent rail, highway, freight, and airport access. These services connect us with the vast transportation resources that are located in Reno, Nevada, which is southeast of Lassen County. With city conveniences being easily accessible, Lassen County makes the ideal location for expanding business.

Lassen County is a growing economic player in California, a rural county offering an abundance of human and natural resources. Several new projects have put us on the forefront of development and expansion in this area of the state. We are actively seeking new businesses that are looking to relocate or expand in our region. Site location assistance is provided directly through the County?s Economic Development/Housing Division and enhanced by our Geographic Information System. Our entire team of professional staff is committed to assisting companies interested in doing business in Lassen County, with the full support of our elected officials.

Highway 395 runs north and south through the entire county, connecting us with Reno and Interstate 80 to the southeast, and coming within miles of Susanville, the only incorporated city within our county. Leaving Susanville to the west, one will connect with the north-south byway of Interstate 5 via Hwy 44 or 36. Formerly, industry was driven by the logging industry, but we are now looking to attract new forms of commerce?especially manufacturers. Being part of the Recycling Market Development Zone creates added incentives of local assistance available to businesses.

Due to the relatively mild climate, Lassen County is able to appeal to locals and visitors alike with year- round recreational activities. One can water ski or fish for the world-renowned trout at Eagle Lake, surrounded by mountains covered with standing pines. The beautiful high desert areas of the county attract off-road vehicles and horseback riders. The winter season provides access to outstanding snowmobile trails, cross-country and downhill skiing areas, and snowshoe hikes in Lassen Volcanic National Park and Lassen National Forest. Initial construction plans are ongoing at Dyer Mountain, a four-seasons resort near Westwood, which includes the development of California?s newest ski resort.
Lassen County enjoys a clean natural environment with excellent air quality. The small communities that dot the countryside are ideal for raising families with less crime, traffic, and lower cost of living. Housing prices are among the most affordable in California, with a wide variety of choices available including historic homes in Susanville, convenient suburban developments, and larger ranch and mountain properties.
